As I prepped for the upcoming KZYX radio broadcast of “War of the Worlds” on October 30th, I got a call from a good friend about a “comet in the sky”. Shirtless, I ran out of the house and looked to the night sky, like a suspect in a COPS episode. Sure enough, there was a beautiful, white object with brilliant white plumes of vapor emitting from it like the legs of some strange octopus. Turns out it was a Space X rocket test at Vandenberg Air Force Base. I grabbed my camera and snapped off a few photos. Handheld, no tripod. Even though I had no time to prepare, I was still happy with the way the photos turned out…

Back Home After a Trip to West Sacramento
It feels good to be home! The difference between West Sacramento and Redwood Valley this time of year is about 30 percentage points of humidity! I did happen to take this image of the CHP Memorial Fountain during my visit. In case you're wondering, the fountain honors the lives of CHP Officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Some consider this location the heart and soul of the CHP Academy.
